Created by Mike Novack, Byte Club is a strategic card game that makes cybersecurity concepts easy and enjoyable to learn. Byte Club is ideal for family game nights, workshops, or conferences, transforming cybersecurity into a fun and accessible experience for everyone.

Designed for 2-4 players aged 13 and up, each 20-minute session simulates real-world cyber threats and defense strategies, familiarizing players with essential cybersecurity frameworks used by attackers and defenders alike.

Through Byte Club’s engaging "capture the flag" gameplay, players gain practical insights into safeguarding digital information, countering cyberattacks, and understanding key concepts like the Cyber Kill Chain and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

How to play?

Set-up

  • Shuffle the Data Flag and Times Up cards into the Action deck.
  • Deal 3 Reference Cards and 4 Action Cards to each player.
  • Place the Game Set Up card in the center with the deck and key cards around it.
  • Choose a starting player.

Gameplay

  • On Your Turn: Play any number of Action cards, resolving effects one at a time. Used cards stay face-up in front of you.
  • End Your Turn: Draw 1 Action card. If you have 7+ cards, discard down to 6.
  • Special Rule: If you have 0 cards (not your turn), draw 4 immediately.

Winning the game

The game ends when a player:
✅ Holds the Data Flag when the Times Up card is revealed.
✅ Has 1 of every Attack & Defend card in play.
