Let's Talk AI Ethics
Let’s Talk AI Ethics is a role-playing game that allows co-workers, classmates, and willing groups of adults and future leaders discuss some of the most interesting and challenging AI applications being faced today. Through role play, participants explore difficult conversations regarding real life AI scenarios. Players will be assigned specific roles, and sometimes personality traits. They are encouraged to embellish and embrace viewpoints that may not be their own during Active Play.
There are 5 Scenarios covered in the deck. Each Scenario is tied to one or more of the following topics:
- How AI Works
- Evaluating AI Information
- Authenticity & Critical Reflection
- Citing AI Tools
- Emerging Ethical Issues
- Prompting Effectively

How to play?
Set-up
Identify a Timekeeper: Choose someone to keep time. They may join the game but shouldn’t read any cards in advance. If everyone’s played before, discussions can go deeper thanks to shared experience.
Set-up Your Play Area: Place a small table and 2 chairs in the centre. Other players should sit nearby to easily hear the conversation.
Assign Roles: The timekeeper hands out Role cards, each showing an active role Scenario-Player combination. If there are fewer than 10 players, remove matching Role sets and their Scenario cards.
Gameplay
Scenarios should run for 16 minutes using the included timetable to maintain focus. Choose a Scenario shape by group consensus. The two players with matching shapes on their Role cards become the Active Players and move to the central table.
Repeat with a new shape and new Active Players each round.
All 5 rounds take 80 minutes if timed well. For a shorter game, remove Scenarios and their matching Role cards.
Ending the game
During a final all-group discussion, tally which AI scenarios were most likely to be adopted and which ones met the most resistance.
The timekeeper/facilitator may choose to identify and award recognitions based on observation during the team discussion.
Recognitions may include: most rational reasoning, most dramatic interpretation, most creative argument, or least confrontational participant.
Corporate / Classroom Experiences
Dedicate 2 hours to complete this event. Allow for a few minutes of introduction. It is crucial to reserve 15-20 minutes to report back the biggest takeaways of the exercise to the room.
If shorter time frames are a constraint, facilitators may select as few as 3 appropriate Scenarios. In a large group setting it is important that the first Scenario is the least complex/least provoking discussion topic to familiarize the players with the rhythm of the game in a safe environment.
If leaving decks with the client, the Call to Action is to challenge participants to schedule a mini-event for their own teams within 30 days.
